Free classes, kept free by the people who give back

Vedanta Community receives donations through the Vedanta Institute Durban Trust, a registered charitable trust. Every weekly class is free, and it stays free because people who have benefited give back, in money and in time. The wisdom is offered for the well-being of humanity.

What a gift pays for

The room, the books and the next class

The Zoom room

Every Sunday class and every cohort of the short course runs online. A gift keeps the room open for people joining from anywhere.

A venue in Durban

Public talks and workshops need a hall for an evening or a Saturday. A gift covers the hire so the talk can stay free.

Books for the youth class

Each child in the symbolism course needs a copy of the book. A gift puts one in the hands of a child whose family cannot buy it.

The next class

Printing, postage, the website and the small costs of keeping a community running week after week.

The trust publishes what it spent at the end of each year.

Donate

Once, or every month

Give what you can, once or as a monthly gift. Tell us how much and how, and we send the bank details and a receipt. Card payment through this page is being set up; until it is live, gifts are made by bank transfer.

Vedanta Community is the public name of the Vedanta Institute Durban Trust. Ask us for the trust’s registration details if you need them for your records.

Volunteer

An hour on a Sunday, or a Saturday now and then

Most of what the community does is done by people who give an hour a week. Here is what we need, and how long each one takes.

  • Host the Zoom room on Sunday afternoons: open the room, admit people, keep an eye on the chat. One hour a week.
  • Welcome people at a talk or workshop in Durban: the table at the door, the name list, the tea. One evening every two months.
  • Help in the youth class: reading with the children and helping with the art. One hour a week for eight weeks.
  • Carry the books to a talk and take orders at the table.
  • Write, design or post: the WhatsApp key points after a class, a flyer, a social post. A few hours a month.
